Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command have foiled two separate kidnap attempts in Buruku of Chikun Local Government area and Barakallahu area in Rigachikun of Kaduna State.
This is according to a statement on Wednesday, signed by Police Public relation Officer (PPRO), Kaduna Command, ASP Muhammed Jalige and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement, “On 5th April 2022, the Kaduna Police Command are in receipt of a report through Divisional Police Officer, Buruku stating that on the same date at about 1400hrs, a distress call was received to the effect that some unspecified number of armed bandits had blocked the Buruku-Birnin Gwari road around Kwanan Ruwa village of Chikun LGA in their desperate attempt to kidnap commuters.
“On getting the information, operatives were immediately mobilised to the area and upon sighting the operatives, the bandits started shooting berserkly in an effort to whisk away their victims. The operatives tactically engaged them which eventually forced the marauding bandits to retreat into the nearby bush abandoning their victims which the officers rescued unhurt.
“The victims were subsequently taken to the police station where four persons were profiled as follows; Samaila Mustapha ‘M’ of Rigasa village Kaduna, Abdulrahaman Dauda ‘M’, Zubairu Haliru ‘M’ and, Shamsu Dalhatu ‘M’, all of Buruku village of Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. They were later released to their families while the recovered vehicle is handed over to the owner upon proper documentation.”
The statement in another development stated that “In a related development, the Operatives of the command alongside reinforcements from the Nigerian Army had today 6th April 2022 at about 0045hrs intercepted some group of armed bandits who forced their way into the Barakallahu community in their usual criminal manner to kidnap residents.
“The operatives responded promptly, engaged them in a fierce gun duel which lasted for about two hours forcing the bandits to rescind their mission and fled into the forest with varying bullet wounds.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that no one was kidnapped in the community and no injury to any resident and the security forces. Normalcy is restored in the environs as the rigorous patrol is being intensified to forestall further attacks.
“The command is appreciative of the prompt report of these bandits’ movement to security agencies that resulted in thwarting of these two attempted incidences and urged them to sustain the partnership to enable us to safeguard our respective communities from these criminal elements,” the statement said.
