The Rivers police command has confirmed that 10 persons were killed this morning in an early morning shootout between yet to be identified groups in the slaughter area of Agip in Obio/Akpor local government area of Port Harcourt.
Nnamdi Omoni, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO of the command said while confirming the story that the police was yet to ascertain who was involved in the shootout or the motives behind it.
Also Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, of the local government, Hon Ozioma also confirmed the incident but refused to make any further comment.
An eyewitness, however, said that about 15 persons including a couple were killed in the shooting spree saying that no one was aware of the cause of the shooting or who was responsible for it.
But the PPRO who described the incident as unfortunate said the police can confirm it and that the Divisional Police Office of the area was already at the scene adding that he also was on his way there.
“The cause of the incident is not yet known, but we know that about 10 persons are feared dead, but I know that in no time we will be able to unravel those behind the killing”.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Zulu has met with the Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, Hon Ozioma in an effort to restore calm to the place and have people go about their legitimate businesses.
