Police arrest two herders over killing of teenager in Ekiti

The police command in Ekiti state has announced the rest of two herdsmen who allegedly killed a 16-year-old girl in Emure-Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area of the state.

Nigerian Tribune had reported that the deceased identified simply as Faith was killed by suspected herders in the farm after resisting rape attempts from them.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Abutu Sunday in a statement on Tuesday said the two suspects were nabbed close to the scene of the incident by operatives of the command after receiving distress calls from the deceased brother.

The PPRO while providing more information on the incident said the deceased’s father asked to check his trap set in the farm when the incident happened.

He said, ” According to her, while Moses was going to the farm to check the trap, she went with her younger brother, one Testimony.

“On getting to the farm, information from the younger brother who escaped from the scene has it that two men accosted them and threatened to either have carnal knowledge of Faith or kill her.

“She refused and struggled with them and in the process, they brought out two cutlasses, slit her throat and cut off her right hand.”

On how the suspects were arrested, the police spokesman said, ” Upon the receipt of the information, Police operatives from Emure Division swung into action and cordon off the farm.

” Two suspects, one Bashir “31yrs” and Mohammad Jamiu “36yrs”, were arrested very close to the scene of crime with two cutlasses suspected to have been used for the heinous act. Investigation in progress.”
