A 28-year-old woman, Mariam Tijani, has prayed the Upper Area Court, Mararaba in Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Abdul Tijani over his failure to care for the family.
Mariam who accused her husband, a businessman, of being irresponsible, told the court that she was no longer in love with him.
According to Mariam, she and Abdul got married on July 1, 2017 in line with the native laws and customs of Kogi State.
“Our union is blessed with one child, who is now 11 months. My husband has failed in his duty as a husband and father.
“Abdul does not take good care of us. He does not provide us with clothing and proper feeding, this has killed the love I have for him, “she said.

She said that Abdul had refused to change in spite of concerted efforts to make him treat the family well.
“I have lost love and affection for Abdul and our marriage has broken down irretrievably. I no longer desire to remain in our marriage and I am pleading that it should be dissolved, “she said.
She also requested that the court should grant her custody of their only child and compel Abdul to pay N30,000 monthly for the baby’s upkeep.
The respondent, however, denied all the allegations, and pleaded for time to enable him discuss and settle issues with his wife.
The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case till May 10, for hearing and consideration of settlement.
