Simon Lalong
The Plateau State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Simon Lalong saying as an institution it will henceforth not condone any act of insecurity and killings in Plateau, among others.
It would be recalled the House recently gave the governor two weeks ultimatum to address security challenges facing the state. However, the ultimatum along the line did not go down well with executive arms which perceived it as a ploy to commence the impeachment process against the governor.
Addressing newsmen, on Thursday, the Chairman House Committee on Information Hon Philip Dasun said the Assembly also passed a vote of confidence on the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abok Ayabu over his resolute stand in cautioning Governor Lalong to take proactive steps in restoring peace to the state during the crisis.
Dasun said the reasons why the Assembly Members gave Governor Lalong kudos was as a result of him meeting five out of the six resolutions spelt out to him (Lalong).
According to him, “We felt it is important as an organized institution; we have a duty to communicate back to the people of Plateau State the outcome of the resolution and of the present position of the Assembly.
“First, we thank God for the return of peace in the state. We gave a six-item resolution to the executive governor to act on within two weeks. He has so far been able to address five of the items remaining the one that is ongoing.”
The House affirmed that Lalong has met up with the demands of the House by meeting up with five out of the resolutions by visiting and engaging the people through the distribution of relief materials by cushioning the effects.
Among the resolutions meet up by the governor includes; the improvement of the security situation in the state by engaging the advance security operatives, the suspension of the plan ad-hoc teachers recruitment to replace it with the vigilante and local hunters as well as to implement the anti-land grabbing law to enable those occupying illegal lands in Plateau to vacate such lands and native owners to get back their lands.
Hon Dasun called on the executive to expedite action on the formation of the Anti Land Grabbing Board to facilitate the process of land recovery.
Expressing their positions, the House said as an institution it will henceforth not condone any act of insecurity and killings in Plateau, among others.
