In view of the prevailing education standard in Nigeria, coupled with dilapidated school structures, an Abia philanthropist, Chris Akachi Nwa-Abia, has concluded plans to partner the Abia State Government on improvement of schools and infrastructure in the state.
Towards realising this, Nwa-Abia has embarked on projects that will enhance school life and the citizenry in the state, including remodeling of Nkwoachara Community Primary School, Isingwu and an ultra-modern Isingwu Federated hall, Nkwoachara.
An illustrious son of Isingwu, Nwa-Abia has been in touch with the necessary state agencies, who have assured him of the government support over the school project.
Before now, the school had been abandoned due to severe dilapidation of its structures, but now has brand new 4-classroom model structures with water borehole and modern toiletries and 6-classroom new block built by Abia State Universal basic Education Board, all courtesy of Akachi Nwa-Abia.
The water borehole in the school he also reticulated to the school host community, while an ultra-modern mini-stadium in the school has reached near-completion stage “to enhance sports and social activities” in the area.
Beyond Isingwu, Nwa-Abia three weeks ago, empowered the entire Ohuhu Welfare, Women wing with cash worth over N500,000.00 in addition to a carton of jumbo size noodles to each of the women that attended the meeting held at Isingwu federated community hall he is also building.
Speaking with newsmen in his Isingwu country home, Akachi Nwa-Abia said his desire to assist the state government and Abia communities, particularly, Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North LGA was borne out of his “calling”.
“I saw the school deserted due to dilapidated infrastructure with low education quality and low teachers moral due to salary arrears and made a promise to do something through making the school a model project, and Abia State Government came in to continue with another structure. Students also left the school, except those from poor families.
“I plan to synergize with the state government to get more teachers and pupils for the school’, he said.
Nwa-Abia who said he had no political ambition for now, said the gestures was out of his personal efforts and funding, disclosing that he had also empowered the indigent and given scholarship to many in Ohuhu and beyond, disclosing further that a pilot programme of his international foundation was on-going and had been into health centre and modern medical equipment “to capture the community”.
He commended the leadership of Ohuhu Welfare Union under the leadership of Obi Aguocha and prayed God to assist them, pledging his assistance to uplift the clan and to expand his programs to the entire state.
