PDP to appeal high court judgement on exclusion from Plateau LG election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has expressed its readiness to appeal the judgement of Justice Yakubu Kunda of the State High Court which excluded the party from participating in the local government election slated for October 9, 2021.

According to a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr John Akans, the pointed out that the judgement can only be celebrated by those whose consciences were dead to the plight of the people.

The party, therefore, called on all members across the state to remain calm as the arrangement has been made for an appeal to be filed immediately, adding that PDP will never allow anti-democratic forces in an open confrontation with norms and values of democracy.

Also speaking with newsmen through its counsel, Edward Pwajok (SAN), the party said: “Let’s say it loud and clear that we are going to file an appeal against the judgment.

“All the issues that were resolved by the court, I must say that we are dissatisfied, and because we respected the law, we will go to the Court of Appeal, and we are optimistic that the Court will reverse the decisions.

“Because, from just listening to the judgment, there are so many contradictions, there were issues of somersaulting here and there,” he said.

In his reaction to the judgement, the Senator representing Plateau North, Senator Istifanus Gyang, stated that the judgment was an assault on democracy in Plateau State and a ploy to deny PDP participation in the local government polls scheduled for October 9, 2021.

Senator Gyang said those who were beneficiaries of democracy have turned round to put up a choreographic and contrived display of underhand tactics that is visible even to the undiscerning.

He stated that the PDP as a law-abiding party will stand to defend democracy by all lawful means and will never cave into anti-democratic forces on the Plateau or anywhere in this country.
