The Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed nothing less than 299 shops for different offences out of a total number of 536 shops visited by the team.
The affected shops which according to a press statement made available to newsmen in the state on Thursday by the registrar of the association, Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed, includes 37 Pharmacies and 262 Patent Medicine Shops.
According to the press statement which was signed by the registrar and addressed by the Director Enforcement Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, Stephen Esumobi, their offences as operating without registration with the association.
The offence includes failure to renew premises license, dispensing ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist, poor storage and sanitary conditions among others.
He further said two people were arrested in the process while six Pharmacies and Patent Medicine Shops were issued compliance directives in the process.
He said the state office of the PCN is doing all is in its power to assist owners of premises who are ready to comply with regulations after which they will undergo an orientation programme.
The registrar commended Sokoto State government as well as relevant security agencies for their support to the PCN in its effort to ensure sanity in the drug distribution system in Nigeria.
He explained that the exercise only covered only 12 out of the total number of 23 local governments area in the state due to a security report.
Local governments are covered by the exercise includes Sokoto South, Sokoto North, Wamakko, Tambuwal, Kware, Binji, Bodinga, Shagari, Yabo, Kebbe, Tureta and Dange/Shuni local governments area.
He however assured that the association is watching the situation of the remaining local governments’ area in the state and will be back to ensure all the local government are covered in order to bring sanity to the system.
