A visitation panel set up by the Ogun State Government on issues surrounding crisis at the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu -Ijebu, has recommended that eight staff of the institution be investigated over alleged atrocities against the school.
The panel chaired by Professor Kamaldeen Balogun, on Friday, submitted its report and 33 recommendations to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta.
The Panel recommended the reopening of the crisis-ridden institution with immediate effect in order not to lose its licence and accreditation.
Another recommendation was the full implementation of recommendations of the 2016 staff audit report and the lifting of ban on activities of recognised unions.
Balogun said the institution was in “complete mess” and therefore called for the reconstitution of the Governing Council.
It advised that the activities of unregistered and unrecognized of Coalition of Tai Solarin College of Education Staff (COTAS), be stopped forthwith.
While thanking the State government for giving members of the panel the opportunity to serve, Balogun urged the government to endeavour to pay three months salary to the staff, adding that the five recommendations were the immediate solutions to the problems and the rest for short and long-term solutions.
Governor Abiodun said the government could not afford to toy with the College, saying doing so would mean playing with the future of our youths of the State who crave for quality education.
” Government will look into the five content ones and decide on them. I want to assure you that we will look into all the 33 recommendations and make our decision”, he noted.
Prince Abiodun commended members of the panel for demonstrating a high degree of commitment, responsibility and patriotism by completing their assignment a week ahead.
