After the distribution of the Federal Government palliatives to Christians in Jigawa State, a group of Christians under the leadership of the Evangelical Church of Christ In Nigeria (ECCN) in Hadejia, Pastor Ibrahim Yahaya has accused the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) executives of injustice in collections and distribution of the palliative.
Yahaya told Tribune Church News the palliative, which was a Christmas gift to Christians in the state was received and shared among a few.
The cleric, who is also the chairman of non-indigenes residing in JIgawa State lamented that some CAN leaders in some local government areas did not benefit from the gesture, just as he accused the body in the sharing distributing the palliative to selected people in the association.
According to him, “There were prominent christians and leaders of various communities in Dutse, the state capital, that did not benefit from the gesture. We are so surprised that some things belonging to CAN were shared and such individuals didn’t know about it. Everything that belongs to CAN belongs to all Christians. So, why the sideline?
“We have lodged complaints to the appropriate authority. We paid a courtesy visit to Governor Malam Namadi. We told him about the problems and he promised to address and resolve it,” he added.
Reacting to the allegation, state CAN chairman Reverend Father Morris Hassan denied the claim that he sidelined some of the members the palliative, describing the allegation as baseless.
“We followed the existing sharing formula CAN is made of five blocks. Each block is made up of a group of churches and each block received an equal share. Which block did he belong to? He should go to his on the block and collect his palliative,” he added.
