A motion seeking autonomy and metamorphosis of the Oyo College of Nursing and Midwifery, Kisi, into a full-fledged and autonomous medical institution has been brought before the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Honourable Salami Ayinde, member representing Irepo/Olorunsogo constituency in the  assembly, who presented the motion at plenary, argued that the Kisi campus of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery had the facilities and infrastructure to be an autonomous and full-fledged medical institution.
According to Ayinde in the motion, granting such status will boost the institution’s efforts at providing qualified and employable medical personnel for the state and country at large.
He said that the college showed commitment to the establishment of a medical institution in Oke-Ogun when, in 2016, the Kisi Progressive Union (KPU) and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in Irepo Local Government donated to the state government buildings and other infrastructure for the school.
He listed some of the facilities inherited by the state government as 25-bedroom hostel donated by the Nigerian Army’s Military-Civil Cooperation, e-library donated by Adesope family in Kisi, auditorium with five offices, block of five rooms, among other facilities.
He said various Kisi indigenes had resolved to keep the institution running at the highest assembly if it becomes autonomous and a full-fledged medical institution.
Also at the plenary, the admonished the state government to come up with a policy framework for the adoption and implementation of the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security in the Pace Setter State, in order to pave way for the accessibility of grants and other programmes for the development of women empowerment and gender equality.
