Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has disclosed that over 500,000 hectares of land have been prepared and ready for cultivation across Niger South Senatorial District, in line with his agricultural revolution.

The Governor stated this when he inspected his personal farm in Emi Guye Community near Bida, where 140 hectares have been cultivated out of 1,000 hectares.

Governor Umaru Bago, while at his farm, stated that it is with the support of the Bida Emirate Council, the State government in conjunction with the private sector that his administration was able to prepare over 500,000 hectares of land for cultivation in the area.

He said there will be more community engagements and discussions on the Agricultural revolution, emphasizing that  the youths need to understand the enormous benefits and prosperity they stand to gain in the implementation of his agricultural policies

The Governor, who expressed satisfaction with the remarkable achievements Niger Foods Ltd was making, stating that the enterprise has also been able to clear 32,000 hectares of land in Bobi grazing reserve in Niger North Senatorial District, among other areas for same purpose.

During his interaction with the people of the community, he informed them of his plan to co-opt them into his farm to make money and also assured them of more development to the community.

The Zonal Project Manager of Zone A, Niger Foods, Fodio Yusuf Abubakar, said Niger Foods has been able to cover all farmlands that have been allocated to them by the Communities in Niger South Senatorial District (Zone A).

He explained that Maize, Soyabeans, and Sesame are the alternative crops being planted, pointing out that more discussions will be held with other communities, to key into the agricultural revolution.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Bawa Bosso, said the agricultural revolution was already taking shape, adding that the target of feeding the nation was achievable.

He acknowledged that the working relationship between the Ministry and Niger Foods has motivated more people to go into the agricultural project of the State Governor.

The Commissioner said through a programme tagged “Community Agricultural Extension Volunteers (CAEV), Community members that indicated interest, have been mobilized from across the State.”
