A former political adviser to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Dr Usman Bugaje, will deliver the 2021 annual national reunion lecture of the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA) on Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
A statement signed by the chairman of the planning committee of the reunion, Mohammed Buari and the association’s public relations officer, Samsudeen Adenopo, stated that the programme would hold at the Oduduwa Hall of the university from Friday, August 20, to Sunday, August 22, from 10.00 a.m.
According to the statement, Bugaje, who is also a former member of the House of Representatives, will speak on the theme of the reunion, ‘Nigeria at a Crossroads: The Myths, the Facts, the Realities’.
Bugaje – the founding chairman of Network for Justice, an advocacy group concerned with promoting civil education, consumer and human rights; acting convener of the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP), a public policy group that is promoting policies to restore stable governance and stimulate economic renewal in the northern states of Nigeria – will use the opportunity to speak on national issues such as restructuring, the statement said.
The statement, which announced the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as the royal father of the day, said the Deputy Managing Director, Courteville Business Solutions Plc, Mr Thabit Adewale Sonaike, would chair the occasion on Saturday, August 21 with the OAU vice chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, as the host.
The association stated that there would be a networking dinner on Friday, August 20, at the OAU Central Mosque Hall, from 8.00 p.m., to be anchored by Professor Lukumon Oyedele of the University of West England, Bristol, and chaired by a former vice chancellor of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, Professor Saburi Adesanya, with the chairman of UNIFEMGA’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, as the chief host.
It said there would be a special Juma’at service at the OAU Central Mosque, a courtesy call on the vice chancellor and a reception for all the delegates.
UNIFEMGA noted that there would also be scholarship grant and an empowerment programme for students on campus to be facilitated by renowned resource persons as well as fitness exercises for all delegates.
Other highlights of the three-day national reunion, the association said, include novelty matches among the branches and a press conference on Sunday, August 22.
The association’s national president, Alhaji Abdulfatah Olanlege, said the 2021 reunion coinciding with the diamond jubilee celebration of the OAU “offers us the unique opportunity to take stock of how well we have given back to the university and the society at large.”
