One killed, two injured as police arrest 11 during cult clash in Osun

Two rival cultists on Monday clashed in Osogbo, the Osun State capital leaving one person dead and two others injured.

The clash which took place around Owo-ope area of the town around 11.00 a.m lasted hours.

Armed with guns, clubs, charms, cutlasses, broken bottles, cudgels and other dangerous weapons, they disrupted the peace of the vicinity and caused a traffic logjam.

Meanwhile, the state police command in conjunction with the South-West security outfit, Amotekun in the state apprehended 11 suspects. They are presently being interrogated by the State Security Department of the command.

Speaking on the incident, the police spokesperson, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that, 11 persons have been arrested in connection with the clash.

She hinted further that “a suspected rival cultist was killed at Ayetoro and security operatives have since brough the situation under control.

“We raided some black spots in the state capital with State Joint Task Force after some rival cultist groups engaged in shootout leading to the death of a yet to be identified suspected cultist.

“During the raid, some of them opened fire on our operatives and in the process, a cultist was shot in the leg. He is presently at the Police clinic for treatment because we still need to interrogate him for information,” she said.
