ONE person was on Thursday killed and 16 others rescued as a three-storey building collapsed at Ilasamaja area of Lagos State.
The corpse of one of the construction worker was late on Thursday evening recovered after the 16 injured had been treated.
Metro learnt that the dead and injured victims of the Thursday incident were labourers and artisans who were working in the collapsed building.
Rescue operation by operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Service and the National Emergency Management Agency was still going on late on Thursday.
The building, situated on 6, Richard Abimbola Street, reportedly caved in around 2:00p.m., trappings the artisans and construction workers under the rubbles.
LASEMA’s General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, and NEMA, South West’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the collapse of the building to Metro.
Farinloye said that 16 persons were rescued.
It was gathered that the workers and artisans were on the first, second and third floors of the building when it collapsed on them.
