The roles of teachers in nation building and development cannot be overemphasised. As a matter of fact, people usually say that parents who are disrespectful to teachers will end up personally teaching their children themselves.
In the recent past in this country, it was difficult for many teachers to live a comfortable life. They could not ride exotic cars, let alone build great edifices in which to live. Teachers could be easily identified with monochromatic fabrics in the society.
In recent times, however, teacher’s lives are getting better as they are benefiting from the rewards that many people thought could only await them in heaven. This is the case in Oyo State where our amiable governor, Seyi Makinde, recently approved the unprecedented promotion of 14,000 workers in schools, including teaching and non-teaching staff.
Apparently, Governor Makinde has made a huge impact in all sectors of the Oyo economy. In particular, he has become adept in putting smiles on workers’ faces every 25th day of the month, paying their salaries and allowances unfailingly.
I strongly believe that he is working towards perfection in other sectors. I, therefore, urge the entire civil servants in the state to reciprocate the good gestures by intensifying their efforts to work for the progress of Oyo State and the federation as a whole.
