Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa, is preparing to take her latest flick, Omoniyun, to the cinemas across the country as from November 29. The movie is the new job produced by Amusa, who is emerging as one of the new faces of female movie producers.
From her previous works such as ‘Unforgivable,’ ‘That Which Bind Us’ that earned her awards and recognitions across the country and prepared her journey into movie-making, Amusa said Omoniyun is a story for the protection of the girl-child.
The actress, who has also delved into music with a couple of songs to her credit, disclosed that shooting a movie that sheds light on the challenges of the girl-child had always been a long-time dream, adding that the story is about creating awareness for the protection of the girl-child.
Speaking with R on her project and what informed the story, Amusa said many people need to stand up and speak out on how the society has not been fair to the girl.
She added that the girl-child should be protected by the community she finds herself rather than being endangered.
“I believe the girl-child is disadvantaged. We need people with voices and influence to stand up for them. We need movies that will engender discourse in this regard. The girl needs protection from the whole community and not just her relatives. I made the movie so as to protect the girl child,” she said.
Omoniyun is the story of a young girl, Fiyifolu, who was sexually assaulted by a prince, Prince Sodeke, who always gets away with the evil he commits. However, he had to fight for his life and reputation when Omoniyun, a community nurse and her friend decided to fight for the molested lady.
The movie has star such as Segun Arinze, Bimbo Thomas, Toyin Alausa, Seilat Adebowale, Muyiwa Ademola, among others.
