In line with his yearly social intervention project, the former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has offset the two million, three hundred thousand naira (N2.3m) bills of 17 patients who could not pay their medical bills after receiving treatment at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife in Osun State.
Omisore who visited the hospital at the early hours of Wednesday to celebrate the New Year with those who were on admission at the hospital, disclosed that he has made it a point of duty to always celebrate the first day of the year with those who are in the hospital or at the orphanage homes and couldn’t make it to celebrate the day in their respective homes.
He also disclosed that his presence and that of the people will give the patients a sense of belonging and make them realise that they are not forgotten, just as he appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to also find a means of reaching out to the needy in their respective communities.
“It is not only about settling their bills but our presence here will also make them feel that they are not forgotten and that’s why I have made it a point of duty to always visit here every first day of the year.
“I, however, appeal to good-spirited people in the society to assist other patients who are still in the hospital because of lack of money to offset their medical bills and to also reach out to the needy in the society,” he said.

He also appealed to other well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the hospital, noting that the hospital is in dire need of infrastructures.
A minute silence was, however, observed for Chairman, Medical Advisory Council of the hospital, Prof. Jerome Elusiyan, who was killed a few weeks ago.
Omisore also sent relief materials to the Convenant Orphanage and Welfare Centre in Moro, another community within the Ile-Ife metropolis, after leaving the OAUTH.
