The Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, has charged the federal government to increase the monthly salary of security operatives to make them perform creditably well in their lawful assignments.
The traditional ruler in a statement in Osogbo, on Tuesday, further maintained that the federal government of Nigeria should legislate on the increment of monthly pays of security officers saying, such will not only strengthens efficiency but also discourage bribery and corruption in the security organs of Nigeria.
He described the monthly emolument of Nigerian security men as ridiculous, saying increment will strengthen their optimal performances.
“When there is a security threat to an environment or community, we call on security men with a single life like us to stand in and calm palpable tension.
“When robbers rob, the security men will mobilize to protect lives and resources. Many officers have been victims. They do delicate assignments and deserve to be encouraged with full security job. They are everywhere to checkmate crimes and criminals.”
Oba Akanbi who enjoined the federal government under President Muhammed Buhari to consider more remuneration increment for the security operatives without wasting time remarked that “if this is attended to, most Nigerians could sleep when police are awake, keeping vigil on duty to secure the nation and her people.
“This will also improve efficiency and reduce bribery associated with security operatives while discharging their duties.
“The federal government of Nigeria should legislate on the increment of monthly pays of security officers. Such will not only strengthen efficiency but also discourage bribery and corruption in the security organs of Nigeria.
“Security jobs are enviable posts in some developed countries. Officers use the best cars and own the best houses. Motivating pay is a factor. It boosts their morale, discourages bribe and improves efficiency,” he submitted.
