The Ogun State Government has expressed shock and sadness over a gas tanker explosion that occured on Thursday night, which affected the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) Plaza, in Lagos State.
The government in a statement signed by the Special Adviser and Managing Director of OPIC, Arch Abiodun Fari-Arole, made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, on Friday morning, said necessary steps would be taken by the government as soon as the report of the investigation into the fire incident is completed.
The OPIC boss commiserated with the families of those who lost their dear ones as a result of the incident while appreciating the swiftness of the operatives of Fire Servicemen to contain the inferno.
The statement reads, “The Government of Ogun State and the Management of Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation are greatly shocked and saddened by the tragic incident of fire that gutted OPIC Plaza, along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja on Thursday night.
“From the available preliminary report, we understand that the fire was caused by a gas tanker that exploded right in front of the Plaza and as a result, several persons lost their lives while some persons were seriously injured and are receiving treatment. This is very unfortunate. Our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the fire incident.
*We must commend the efforts of the fire servicemen who promptly responded when they were called upon. We also appreciate the efforts of security officials who did not allow hoodlums to take advantage of the incident.
“It is too early to speculate on the general impact of the incident. We shall therefore await the report of the investigation into this fire and thereafter take necessary steps.”
