Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, has restated the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing and reducing poverty in the state.
Mrs Abiodun stated this during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Nurses Estate facilitated by Omoluabi Empire Holdings in Abeokuta.
Mrs Abiodun who was represented by the wife of the Permanent Secretary Bureau of Public Service Transformation Office, Dr (Mrs) Elizabeth Oyeneye, said the right to adequate housing is a human right as we all strive towards sustainable development.
She lauded the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) initiative for ensuring that nurses and midwives in the state have access to affordable housing, adding that such vision keys into the mission of sustainable development in Ogun State.
The initiative is part of the Omoluabi Estate’s plan to allow professionals to buy affordable land and properties with ease.
It would be recalled that the newly-appointed Managing Director of Ojulowo Omoluabi Empire Holdings, Nkechi Sunday, last week met with Mrs Abiodun where she promised the organisation’s commitment to supporting the government by creating affordable housing for residents especially women and the elderly.
Mrs Abiodun who is also the patron of the association further said: “Nurses and midwives are the backbones of all health care because, in addition to the support they give to doctors, they provide the care that families need in understanding the emotional, physical, mental, and cultural challenges they face during sickness and health.”
While lauding the facilitator of the estate, Omoluabi Empire Holdings for its partnership and investment in the state, she noted that “the government can’t do this alone. We need to work with the private sector to provide homes and necessary infrastructure for the people of Ogun State.
“To achieve sustainable development in our state we need investment from both the government and private sector to help in closing up the housing gap. My doors are open to listen to more of such initiatives and I will do all within my capacity to ensure that our people especially women and children are adequately catered for in the state.”
