Ogun agric initiative: Speaker tasks younger farmers on self-sufficiency

YOUNG farmers in Ogun State have been charged to take advantage of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led- administration’s massive investment in the agriculture sector as a means to achieving ensure self-dependency and economic prosperity for the state.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the charge in an interview shortly after opening sales at the weekly market known as “Oja Irorun” at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.

Adekunbi, while being conducted round the market by the Director of Administration and Supplies in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Tunji Kanimodo  said that the state government’s investment in the agriculture sector has been yielding fruits as young farmers under the graduate farmers’ initiative of the state government now have their farm produce displayed at the market.

He encouraged more youths across the state to take advantage of the fertile land the state is blessed with by embracing agriculture to achieve food security and create more wealth.

According to the Speaker, government’s investment in the sector was to serve as a major hub for ensuring economic diversification and massive production of farm produce for local consumption and export.

“With the economic situation in the nation, governments at all levels need to go back to agriculture which remains a veritable means towards economic prosperity”, the Speaker remarked.

He applauded the State Ministry of Agriculture for putting in place the market, where civil servants in the state secretariat could purchase with ease, fresh farm produce at a very low cost.
