THE immediate past APC Governorship Candidate for the just concluded, Anambra 2017 Guber election and a member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Dr Tony Nwoye, yesterday thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for keeping his word and promise over the 2nd Niger Bridge and Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
Nwoye dropped his appreciation when he received the report about the projects from the team, which he sent to observe the extent of work done so far at the two sites, especially at Umunya-Amawbia axis of Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.
It will be recalled that during the flag-off campaign of Dr Tony Nwoye Campaign at Onitsha, he made a passionate appeal to President Buhari, who was represented by Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo about the state of the road and what road users mostly it citizens were passing through.
He later followed it up with an appeal to the Minister of Power, Works, and Housing, who promised to mobilise a contractor to the site.
The lawmaker maintained that those projects were dear to traders, common people, and Ndi Igbo and were not among his campaign promise projects.
He expressed happiness that despite the outcome of the governorship election in the state, work has continued on the road and the contract was given to one of the best companies, RCC.
He expressed hope that the company would do a good job on the road and finish it on time.
When completed, he said, it would help to alleviate the suffering of road users who had suffered enough on that road.
“The road will bring back the economic activities of Enugu, Awka, Awukuzu, and Onitsha to life and reduce accidents,” he said.
On the 2nd Niger Bridge, which was awarded to Julius Berger, Hon Nwoye maintained that he would work with other legislators to make sure that issue of funding would not be an obstacle in completing the project within five years. He expressed happiness over what President Buhari is doing and urged South East (the Igbo) to give him massive support, as he meant well for the People of the region.
The Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, had on October 20, 2017, during the APC Governorship campaign of Dr Tony Nwoye in Onitsha, Anambra State, said the Federal Government had released the sum of N2 billion through the Sovereign Wealth Fund for the project.
Prof Osinbajo reiterated the Buhari administration’s commitment to keeping its promises to the Nigerian people, saying that one of those promises was the construction of the Second Niger Bridge.
Nwoye further maintained that politics should be seen as a service to the people, not the other way round. He promises to attract more projects to Anambra State and South East as a whole.
Dr Nwoye, therefore, enjoined the Igbos at this time and always, to embrace and support President Buhari, APC and most importantly, to reconnect themselves to the centre.
