The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has been notified of the serious incident involving the Embraer ERJI45 aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines and it has commenced investigation.
NSIB in a statement issued by the Spokesperson, Tunji Oketumbi confirmed that all 51 passengers and four crew members were successfully evacuated and solicited information from the general public in the form of pictures, video or recording that will assist them in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
“The aircraft on landing on Runway 18R of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, skidded off the runway. There was no injury or fatality” the statement noted.
“NSIB hereby solicits information from the general public in the form of pictures, video or recording evidence to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
“Also, the NSIB will appreciate that the general public and press respect the privacy of the people involved and NOT assume the cause of the serious incident until a formal report is released.
So far, the cause of the incident apart from the wet runway remained unknown while passengers have been evacuated as of the time of filing this report.
The incident happened at about 07:35 pm hours during the heavy downpour.
Rescue operations began immediately with the arrival of officials from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant agencies.
