THE Police have confirmed the arrest of the officer who killed Mr Ogar Jumbo, an Assistant Superintendent of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday in Nyanya, Abuja.
Late Jumbo, was said to have been beaten and killed by policemen on duty for allegedly violating traffic rules at Nyanya market in front of a branch of Redeemed Church near a military checkpoint.
Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Bala Ciroma, who paid a condolence visit to the NSCDC FCT Command, said the officer who killed the personnel has been arrested and would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Head of Public Relations Office of NSCDC FCT Command, Mr Akinbinu David, told Tribune Online that the CP was at the Command to commiserate with NSCDC Commandant FCT, Solomon Iyamu and the family of the deceased.
The Commandant-General of NSCDC, Mr Muhammadu Gana, while commiserating with the family of the deceased officer, appealed to the officers and men of the Corps to be law abiding and remain calm over the incident.
He said the ugly incident should not cause a row between the two agencies.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Solomon Iyamu, expressed displeasure over the gruesome murder of one of his officers Jumo Ochigbo Ogar ASC11 along Nyanya road FCT Abuja on his way to the office.
He confirmed his death officially following his visit to the Asokoro General Hospital where his Corpse was deposited by the police.
Commandant Iyamu disclosed that the circumstances surrounding his death were questionable stating that the Corps would not rest until the perpetrators of the heinous act were brought to book.
The officer was said to have been killed in the present of the wife and children.
Sources said he was conveying his kids and wife to school before heading to the office when he made a U-turn at a wrong location to enable him to meet up with the time.
The policemen who were on duty in the area were said to have stopped him for violating the traffic rules.
The deceased who was on a uniform when the incident happened was said to have identified himself with his identity card and pleaded with the officers for their understanding but was eventually beaten to death.
