Nigerian Medical Associations said it is supporting the #ENDSARS protests with free first aid to any protester requiring such and protective materials like facemasks, shield and alcohol-based hand sanitizers to ensure they are protected from COVID-19.
Chairman, NMA Oyo State branch, Dr Ayotunde Fasunla, speaking to the media in Ibadan and flanked by past Oyo NMA chairman, Dr Akin Sodipo, Dr Adewale Lasisi, Dr Mayowa Alli among others said the association understands that the protesters may require medical attention and thus have directed her members statewide to offer necessary first aid to any protester requiring such.
Dr Fasunla said although every citizen has a right to gathering and protesting, the donated protective materials like facemasks, shield and alcohol-based hand sanitisers as part of the associations’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) to preventing the COVID-19 cases increasing.
According to him, it is important that at gathering and protesting, safety protocols against COVID-19 such as wearing of face masks, face shields, use of hand santisers be employed and adhered to prevent the second wave of infections which could be more devastating.

He added: “NMA implores people that feel sick or unwell to stay away from protest grounds.”
He said the association totally condemns police brutality and inhuman treatment of Nigerians in the hands of police and special antirobbery squad, which had also not speared its members of these uncivil experiences.
“NMA embraces and supports good governance that would provide security for citizens and not brutality, more so from who should protect them. NMA, therefore, believes that the ENDSARS/END Police Brutality struggle is just. Every Nigerians have the right to life and no one should be treated as strangers or slave in his or her own country.”
