The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State Council, has condemned the bandits’ attack on a community in Oriire Local Government Area, which resulted in the abduction of 25 students, as well as the killing of three persons, including two teachers and an okada rider, on Friday.

The Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, in a statement, said the disturbing and reprehensible act was not only a criminal attack on innocent citizens but also a grave assault on the peace, educational stability, and socio-economic wellbeing of the state.

“The Council expresses profound sadness over the trauma, fear, and hardship inflicted on the affected families, schools, and communities.

“The NLC Oyo State Council extends its heartfelt sympathies to the good people of Ogbomoso, the government and citizens of Oyo State, and particularly the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), over this unfortunate incident involving educators, pupils, and other innocent residents. We stand in full solidarity with the leadership and members of the NUT during this difficult time and pray for strength, comfort, and healing for all affected families.

“We also express our firm support for the Oyo State Government and all relevant security agencies in their ongoing efforts to restore peace, rescue the abducted victims, and ensure the swift apprehension of those responsible for this heinous act. We call for intensified intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations to secure the immediate and safe release of all victims.

“Furthermore, we urge the security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of this barbaric act are thoroughly investigated, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law, to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements.

“The safety and security of workers, teachers, students, and all residents of Oyo State remain a top priority.

“The NLC remains committed to supporting every genuine effort aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.

“We continue to pray for the safe return of all abducted victims and for the restoration of lasting peace, stability, and progress in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.”
