Actress, Nkechi Blessing, who was said to have been banned by Theatre and Motion Picture Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) for misconduct has apologised to the leadership of the association for her public outburst when she learnt of her ban.
The actress in a statement released on Thursday said she was driven by emotions, saying that she overreacted to the decision of TAMPAN to stop movie producers and directors from working with her.
TAMPAN had during a press conference in Lagos on Sunday said it would deal with Nkechi Blessing and Iyabo Ojo for their continuous action and social media war in the raging Baba Ijesha saga who was accused of sexual molestation and rape.
In her reaction to the ban, Nkechi took to her social media platforms to address the issue, saying she was not bothered about the ban as she was not a member of TAMPAN or any movie association. She also threw subtle tantrum at leaders of the association including Jide Kosoko, Bolaji Amusan (Mr Latin), Adebayo Salami, Yinka Quadri, among others who were present at the press briefing.
In her statement on Thursday, Nkechi said the last couple of days had been of mixed feelings, anger, concern, disbelief, shock and confusion as she could not understand why TAMPAN directed its members not to work with her, adding that there was no where “that I spoke against TAMPAN, respected elders and colleagues who are their members.
“The only thing I have done is to speak against the culture of rape, pedophilia attitude (sic) and stood against Legemiami who actually gave support to a man who has sexually harassed a minor. I will never be friends with those who are friendly towards assault in particular.
“No reasonable person should keep quiet upon hearing about assault of a minor. As much as we should seek the truth, our first reaction should be to protect the minor and perpetuate awareness against sexual assault of minors. That was what I did and I would be happier to do that again.
“I have nothing but love and respect for TAMPAN, its members and the elders. I acknowledge the fact that my response to daddy Jide Kosoko’s threat against my career was disrespectful and I sincerely apologise to him and I say I am sorry sir. I was driven by my emotions but I will never be sorry for standing against rape, sexual assault, and molestation of minors,” she said.
