A first-class Law alumnus of the University of Ibadan, Yusuf Asamu Olalere, has recently graduated from the University of Oxford with an MSc in Law and Finance (MLF), and will soon be starting his PhD in Law at the same university.
Olalere made this known in his online article titled ‘Journey of grace and resilience: Navigating Oxford’s trials, triumphs, and timeless lessons’.
He stated that telling the full story of his successes, failures, and setbacks creates what Chimamanda Adichie calls a ‘balance of stories.’
The scholar revealed that when he was applying for his master’s programme he applied to the University of Oxford, Stanford University, London School of Economics (LSE), New York University (NYU), and the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL), “in hopes of securing a programme that would allow me to delve into my interests in finance and law.”
And, fortunately for him, he got accepted by all the schools but chose Oxford at last.
According to him, before he completed the MLF programme, he received a fully-funded DPhil (PhD) offer from Oxford as an Amelia Jackson Scholar and AG Leventis Scholar, with additional funding of almost 5000 Pounds.
However, he stated that, “Although, for reasons I have chosen, I am not proceeding with the DPhil at this time, I remain filled with hope and anticipation for the next step.”
He advised those facing challenges and relentlessly pursuing their dreams to remember that every obstacle is a stepping stone toward their destination.
“As I turn the pages and prepare to embrace new beginnings, my heart brims with gratitude and anticipation for what the future holds,” he added.
