Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said that Nigeria is adrift and it is time to set aside sentiments.
The governor noted that tough decisions must be made to rescue the country from the brink.
Obaseki stated this while delivering a lecture: “Making Politics Work for Citizens, Governance and Development: The Edo State Experience,” held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) on Tuesday in Lagos.
He posited that proven methods and innovations must be adopted in retooling Nigeria’s politics and democracy.
Obaseki said this would make the country work for the delivery of good governance and the development of the people.
“The country is adrift. It is time to set sentiments aside.

Speaking on the Edo Experience, the governor disclosed that the state has attracted almost $500 million investment into Palm Oil Cultivation having allocated the first phase of 60,000 hectares of land under the Edo State Oil Palm Production Program (ESOPP).
He noted that Nigeria has not witnessed this scale of oil palm cultivation since independence.
Obaseki, therefore, stated that Nigeria would have taken a critical step to democratic consolidation if what happened in Edo can be replicated in the forthcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking on the rationale behind the lecture, NIIA DG, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, explained that there is a nexus between domestic and foreign policies, adding that the point is about models that work.
Osaghae said that, according to the governor, some things have worked in Edo State and as such could be replicated in other states for the general good of the country.
