In commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has pardoned 15 inmates serving various terms in the state correctional institutions.
Governor Fintiri, in a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said that the release of the inmates will take effect after all legal formalities have been concluded with the correctional institutions.
“The governor acted on the advice of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, and in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 212(i) (d) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, commuted the remainder of the sentences of fifteen (15) reformed prisoners,” the statement said.
The 15 inmates pardoned are serving various prison terms in Numan, Yola and New Custodial Centres.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri also extended his warmest felicitations to all Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s celebration of its 61st independence anniversary.
The statement read: “Today, we celebrate 61 years of nationhood, we celebrate the return of our liberties, the restoration of our dignity, and the democratic resilience we have built over the last six decades.”
The governor while congratulating Nigerians for keeping faith with the nation in its journey to nationhood, commended particularly the resilience of Nigeria’s founding fathers who fought to birth a Nigeria that today stands tall in the comity of nations.
