THE Niger Ministry of Lands and Housing, on Friday in Minna, said it had issued out 600 Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to land owners in the state in March.
The commissioner in charge of the ministry, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi, made this disclosure at a two-week training programme, organised for the staff of the state chapter of the National Geographic Information System (NGIS).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the State Government had on Nov. 2016, declared bonanza for all land owners to obtain Certificate of Occupancy at an affordable rate.
The initial amount of N250, 000 was slashed down to N15, 000 for urban areas and rural areas to N5,000.
The bonanza, which was tagged: “Abu Lolo Certificate of Occupancy bonanza,” an initiative of Gov Abubakar Bello, was to last from January to June 30.
Abdullahi implored land owners to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their certificates.
He said that he would continue to ensure transparency in the process as well as total transformation of the ministry.
The commissioner observed that the ministry had been tagged as a corrupt house in the past.
“I will erase this wrong notion of corruption in the ministry and ensure proper land planning in the state,’’ he said.
He added that such efforts would bring about productivity and effective service delivery.
