Niger Assembly passes N60.7bn LGAs budget for 2021

Niger Assembly

Niger State House of Assembly has passed the 2021 budget in the sum of N60,725,185,827 for the 25 local government areas in the state.

The budget was passed at the plenary session after the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The approved budget comprises N47,161,744,412 as recurrent expenditure and N13,563,441,415 as capital expenditure.

Committee Chairman, Hon Shuaibu Liman Iya, while presenting the report said out of the over N60 billion for the fiscal year, about N42 billion is earmarked for statutory allocation.

Others are over N3billion earmarked for value-added tax while about N4 billion is earmarked for ten percent state allocation and over N1 billion earmarked for internally generated revenue

Hon. Iya observed that due to the dwindling nature of the national economy which has resulted in the fall of allocation to the various levels of government, many of the local government councils still remain in deficit and cannot even pay 100 percent salary to their employees.

The lawmaker urged them to look inward and strategize in order to improve the revenue database to ensure maximum revenue generation.
