The domestic bourse index fell marginally by 0.01 per cent amid renewed profit-taking activity on Thursday.
Basically the All Share Index (ASI) of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) settled at 37,866.90 points as buying interests in Zenith Bank and Stanbic were offset by late sell-offs of Nigerian Breweries and GTCO.
Thus, the ASI’s Month-to-Date (MtD) and Year-to-Date (YtD) losses flat at -0.1 per cent and -6.0 per cent, respectively.
The market’s worth dipped by 0.02 per cent to settle at N19.729 trillion as investors lost N3.94 billion.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment however was positive, as 18 tickers advanced relative to 15 losers.
Specifically, tickers such as GTCO, Vitafoam, Nigerian Breweries, FBN Holdings and Honeywell declined by 0.51per cent, 2.91 per cent, 3.33 per cent, 0.69 per cent and 0.61per cent respectively amid renewed sell pressure.
On sectors, the Oil & Gas, Banking and Insurance indices recorded gains by 0.8 per cent, 0.7 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively while the Consumer Goods index declined by 0.7 per cent. The Industrial goods index closed flat.
Meanwhile, trading activity at the local bourse was weak as total deals, volume and value of stocks traded moderated by 15.84 per cent, 18.88 per cent and 56.64 per cent to 3,038 deals, 0.15 billion units and N9.27 billion respectively.
Sovereign Insurance was the most traded stock by volume at 14.95 million units, while MTN Nigeria was the most traded stock by value at N145.48 million.
