National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on illicit drug activities in Kano, launching a major enforcement campaign that led to the arrest of 52 suspects within two days.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” was executed by the Kano Strategic Command under the leadership of Commander DY Lawal.
It commenced on April 27, 2026, targeting more than 20 identified drug hotspots across the metropolis.

During the initial phase, NDLEA operatives raided several locations, including Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, resulting in the arrest of 15 suspects and the recovery of illicit substances and drug-related paraphernalia.
Follow-up operations on the morning of April 28 extended to areas such as Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and the Audu Bako Secretariat.
These raids led to the arrest of 16 additional suspects, including three women, while assorted drugs and locally fabricated weapons were also recovered.
Further enforcement actions later that evening in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari resulted in 21 more arrests, including one female suspect, alongside the seizure of additional illicit substances and evidentiary materials.
In total, 52 suspects, including four women, were apprehended during the coordinated raids.
Speaking on the initiative, Lawal described the strategy as one focused on “dislodge and occupy,” emphasizing that the agency would continue to dismantle drug hubs, apprehend offenders, and maintain a presence in affected areas until stability is restored.
He also called on residents to support the agency’s efforts in ensuring safer communities.
The operation forms part of NDLEA’s broader mandate to combat drug trafficking and abuse, aligning with the agenda of its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Buba Marwa, to promote a drug-free society.
Authorities said the Kano Strategic Command remains committed to sustained enforcement actions, community engagement, and collaboration with the public to curb the spread of illicit drugs.
