The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) was created among other things to design and implement programmes to combat unemployment, obtain and maintain a data bank on employment vacancies in the country and implement any other policy that may be laid down from time to time.
The Ondo State coordinator of the NDE, Mr Adelodun Olusegun Michael, said this on Wednesday during the flag-off / orientation of the 2024 Basic Open Apprenticeship Training Scheme (B-NOAS) with 20 trainees in Akure, Ondo State.
In order to achieve these aims, the directorate created four core departments to drive home these mandates which includes: Special Public Works (SPW) department, Small Scale Enterprise (SSE) department, Rural Employment Promotion (REP) department and Vocational Skills Development (VSD) department.
The B-NOAS is one of the core programmes of VSD department of the directorate aimed at training unskilled men, women, youths, school drop-outs and other unemployed persons who wished to be trained in trendy and marketable skills.
‘’On this note, I want to welcome on behalf of the Director- General of NDE, Mallam Abubarkar Nuhu Fikpo, everyone to the flag-off/Orientation of B-NOAS, the representative of the director, VSD, Mrs Amina Suleiman, members of staff of NDE, Ondo State, our esteemed trainers, the trainees and other relevant stakeholders to this event,’’ he said.
‘’It is a known fact now that white collar jobs are gradually dwindling and handwork is now the order of the day. The world is now a global village where technological changes are happening at fast rate
‘’In this regard, the directorate, being an agency charged with the responsibility of providing skills for unemployed persons in the country, has bring forth this laudable programme of training 20 individuals in Information and Communication technologies (ICT) and catering.
These individuals were carefully selected from the pool of unemployed persons who are willing to learn from our seasoned trainers and be self-employed.
‘’It is pertinent to state at this point that at the end of the training, the trainees would be provided with stipends to ease the burden of transportation and as well encourage them to participate in the training exercise
‘’ Let me at this point charge the participants to be punctual, dedicated and be attentive during the course of the training. As you have chosen to participate in the training, give it your best shot,’’ he said.
