The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has officially launched the screening exercise for intending Christian pilgrims participating in the 2025 main pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan.
During the screening event held in Ikeja, Lagos, on November 27, 2025, Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, the Executive Secretary of the NCPC, assured pilgrims that there is peace in Israel and that they would be safe while performing their holy pilgrimage. He emphasised that the purpose of the medical screening was to assess the health status of the intending pilgrims.
Bishop Adegbite noted that President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated significant support for both Christian and Muslim pilgrimages, more so than any previous president in the nation’s history.
He urged the pilgrims to continue praying for the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration.
The NCPC Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to achieving zero abscondment of pilgrims during the pilgrimage, stating a strong zero-tolerance policy towards abscondment.
He explained that all necessary measures have been implemented to minimize the risk of abscondment.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Omoniyi Okudero, the Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, emphasized the importance of the medical and physical screenings as part of the preparation for the holy pilgrimage.
He noted that this screening is essential before the airlift of pilgrims to Israel and Jordan.
Dr. Okudero highlighted that the screening exercise is a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission and other relevant security and government agencies involved in verifying travel documents.
He mentioned that the administrative portion of the screening is designed to validate the travel documents of the intending pilgrims and to inform them about expectations during the pilgrimage.
He also stated that the screening exercise would assist the medical team in preparing appropriate medications to meet the health needs of the pilgrims.
Dr. Okudero encouraged the intending pilgrims to adhere to all established guidelines and laws of the holy lands while serving as good ambassadors of Lagos State and Nigeria.
