There seems to be no going back on the February 5 nationwide protest against the Federal Government of Nigeria, as more celebrities have shown interest in the plan even as others have kept a sealed lip on the issue.
The reason for the protest is not far to seek as Nigerian celebrities are worst hit by the ravaging economic downturn that has forced many of them to cut down on their spendings, while a number of them are considering relocating abroad.
Foremost singer, 2face Idibia, otherwise known as 2baba took to his Instagram page to call on Nigerians to join him in a nationwide protest to demand good governance and an urgent explanation for the economic downturn nationwide.
As of Friday afternoon, more artistes had registered their readiness to be part of the protest, which will hold in Lagos State and other parts of the country.
R gathered that Olamide, Ice Prince and Davido, Burna Boy and Yemi Alade will would join the protest.
However, a new twist that is capable of threatening the protest emerged on Friday, as some celebrities who were employed during the campaign of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the build-up to the 2015 election may not join the movement on February 5.
R gathered that some underground moves have been going on to stop the protest that some people believe could further dent the image of the APC-led Federal Government even as some of the notable names in the entertainment industry are yet to announce their involvement in the protest.
Investigation by R revealed that some of them may not join because of their closeness to the corridors of power as they could be seen to be biting the ‘fingers that fed them’.
Meanwhile, actress turned politician, Funke adesiyan has shared her thought on the protest, calling on his colleagues to join politics and make impacts rather staging protest that might not yield results.
The actress, who contested for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly during the 2015 election, said it was no longer enough to protest, but to also join governance and make a change. Hear her “It’s not enough for us to protest; it’s more important for us, youths of this beloved nation to get involved in governance. You could try many times before achieve it. Even if you fail all the time, you are a champion amongst those who didn’t try at all. Let’s look around us, we will realise that we the youths are the driving force of our nation. We are smart, intelligent, agile and we possess many more special qualities. Let’s not waste it protesting to a deaf horse. I hereby advise we the youths of this nation, the most important part of nation-building, to rise and OCCUPY governance.”
