NAPS executive with the Rector, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State and Dean of Students Affair
The Leadership of National Association of Polytechnic Students has called on Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, to reopen the school for the student to continue with there academic activities and examination as an idle hand is the devil’s workshop.
The National Leadership of NAPS stated this yesterday in a Press Release signed by its National President, Comrade Eneji Mohammed and the Public Relations officer, Comrade Ijaduoye and made available to journalists after an emergency meeting held at D -Prove Hotel Zone 4 Abuja On the recent crisis that rocked the institution.
The association who also visited the institution yesterday to ascertain the level of damages caused by the rampage condemned the students’ violence while describing it as childish and immature.
“The leadership of NAPS won’t hesitate to condemn the act displayed by the students as cutting of head should never be the solution to a headache, what led to the riot and damage of properties could be resolved on a round table discussion which the leadership of our organisation adopted during the last ASUP strike in the same institution RUGIPO.
”It’s sardonic to receive the news of protest that led to riot and vandalisation of properties worth million of naira. However, the deed has been done as a Yoruba saying goes ‘Obe ge omolowo omo ju obe nu Obe tise nkan tomase na’ (meaning a knife cuts a child, afterwards we throw the knife away, the knife already fulfilled its mission”.
The association also agitate that where two elephant fight the grass suffers most, appealing to the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, of the institution and other sisters union in the citadel of learning to see reason on how to embrace peace and unity with the management of the institution to bring more development to the institution.
The association also called for the release of students who were arrested by security personnel during the crisis.
“We are aware some of our colleagues have been arrested and arraigned before the court of law , on behalf of the students appeal to the management and Government of Ondo state under the able leadership of our father Rotimi Akeredolu to temper justice with mercy, as we appeal for there release and amicably settle it between fathers and children as there future is important to us and an Injury to one is an Injury to all.”
It also appealed to the management of the institution to be considerate in making the reparation fee minimal and affordable for the students to pay
NAPS also passed a vote of confidence on the Rector of the institution, Engineer Idowu Boniface Ologunagba and Chief Security Officer of the institution, Mr Amos Ifedayo.
