The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwifery, Federal Medical Centre Lokoja chapter has launched 18 seater bus for the association and also mobilised 150 female nurses for cervical screening.
The unit Chairman of the Association, FMC Lokoja, Comrade Abdulmalik Idris stated this during the official commissioning of the 18 seater bus bought for the welfare of her members.
Comr. Abdulmalik added that his tenure has witnessed tremendous achievements through the cooperation of other executives and members of the union.
“The maiden edition of Nurses’ week since the creation of FMC Lokoja. At the instance of the management of this hospital, the executive has been able to mobilize about 150 nurses for cervical smear screening free of charge
“Our tenure also witness the promotion of nurses to the rank of Assistant Director of Nursing Services and Deputy Director of Nursing Services. We have been able to renovate the nurses’ common room and establish business venture as an attachment to improve on our revenue base and annual welfare package for nurses
“We have constituted a committee tagged “parliamentarians” to look into the issue of zoning executive positions of our great union to put an end to the election crisis.
“Within this period, I have been privileged to provide leadership at the state chapter as the interim Chairman for about nine months and I conducted a successful election that usher in new executives at that level and now we are commissioning 18 seater bus for our members’ welfare,” he said.
He thanked Almighty Allah and the management under the able leadership of Dr Olatunde Alabi the Medical Director FMC Lokoja for creating an enabling environment for unionism to strive
Comr Abdulmalik thanked the management of FMCL for their cooperation and support while assuring members of good things to come.
Also speaking, the Head Of Nursing Services – Mrs Mercy Lade Omale (DD Nursing Services)- commended the Medical Director for creating an enabling environment for the worker to do their work as she prayed that the bus will not be a source of their division but unity amongst the staff in the Centre.
The Medical Director of FMC, Dr Olatunde Alabi in his address while commissioning the bus, commended the nurses for their cooperation that led to this noble achievement. “I am charging other departments to emulate this type of effort,” he said.
