A woman, Nafiasat Wasiu, recently dragged her husband, Azeez Wasiu, before Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, accusing him of irresponsibility and indifference to their children’s welfare.

She also stated that her husband who was a drunk also smoked Indian hemp.

According to her, he descended on her with heavy blows every time he was drunk and high, after smoking Indian hemp.

The widow stated that the defendant would kill her if their marriage was not dissolve.

She pleaded with the court to grant her prayer of divorce and grant her custody of their two children whom he denied the needed attention.

Azeez failed to come to court after having been served court summonses.

Nofisat in her evidence said, “My husband is a brute. He smokes Indian hemp from dawn to dusk and descends on me with heavy blows when he is high.

“Azeez failed to be alive to his responsibilities in the home. He constantly neglected me and our children.

“He refused to give us feeding allowance and was indifferent to our children’s education.

“I started by feeding the family from proceeds from my business, but as of today, we feed on the capital which means if care is not taken, my business will soon fold up.

“Azeez is also a drunk. He can drink a drum of alcohol in a day and starts to misbehave after drinking himself to stupour. He turns the whole house upside down and then descends on me with severe beatings. He has turned me into a source of ridicule in our compound and neighbourhood.

“My lord, my husband once got drunk and beat my mother till she almost died.

“She was hospitalised and incapacitated for weeks.

“My lord, I don’t want to stay married to my husband again. I pray that the court separate us and make him responsible for our children’s welfare,” the plaintiff said.

Giving his judgment, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, dissolved their union and ordered the defendant to give the plaintiff N10,000 monthly through the court as their children’s feeding allowance.

He was also mandated to be responsible for their education and health care.

A copy of the judgment was asked to be served the defendant.
