A woman, Nofisat, has approached Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that her marriage to her husband, Mukaila, be dissolved on the grounds of irresponsibility and lack of love by the latter.
Nofisat stated that Mukaila cared less about their welfare and displayed no love and affection towards her and their children.
The plaintiff further explained that the defendant constantly shirked his responsibility in the home and passed the buck to her.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant hardly paid their children’s school fees while he always divided the payment of their rent between both of them.
Nofisat further said that Mukaila was in the habit of sending her out of the house whenever they had differences, regardless of the hour of the day.
The plaintiff pleaded for their children’s custody and also entreated the court to mandate her husband to be responsible for their children’s upkeep, giving feeding, education, and health care, preference.
Mukaila failed to come to court despite being served court summonses.
Nofisat, in her testimony, said, “I agreed to my husband’s marriage proposal because I believed that he loved me, but I now know better.
“I moved in with him shortly after we met.
“We did not carry out any marital rites, and he did not pay my bride price.
“My husband stopped showering me love and attention immediately we got married.
“He never took my feelings on issues as important and was not bothered about my welfare.
“He did not treat our children better when we started having them.
“He was indifferent to their education and hardly paid their school fees.
“He passed this responsibility and many others to me.
“My husband always divided our rent into two.
“He would insist that I pay N40,000 while he would just add the meager amount of N10,000 to it as balance.
“My husband is wicked and always sent me out any time we had a misunderstanding, not minding the hour of the day.
“The last time we had differences, it was in the middle of the night.
“He threw me out and left me in the dark and cold.”
My Lord, I am tired of my husband’s waywardness, and I pray that our marriage be dissolved.
“I also appeal to this honourable court for our children’s custody because he does not love and care for them.
“I further plead that my husband be mandated to take up the responsibility of their upkeep and give preference to their feeding, education and health care.”
The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case until May 12 for judgement.
