RENOWNED scholars and stakeholders will converge on Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, tomorrow to discuss the history of Islam in Yorubaland.
The international conference, being facilitated by the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), is part of activities lined up to mark the 10th anniversary of the organisation, which is the umbrella body for all Muslim councils/communities, organisations and institutions in the six states in the South West region.
A statement by the chairman of the conference planning committee, Professor Muhib Opeloye and chairman of the anniversary committee, Alhaji Yisa Abdulkareem, said the maiden conference would be held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, from 10.00 a.m.
According to the statement, the conference with the theme “Islam in Yorubaland: Progress and Challenges,” which will feature intellectual and scholarly presentations, will be presided over by the chairman of MUSWEN’s Board of Trustees, Prince Abdul Jabbar Bola Ajibola.

“The keynote speaker is the Chief Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Imam Abdurrahman Ahmad, while the lead speaker is the president of the Lagos State Muslim Community, Professor Tajudeen Gbadamosi,” the statement said.
Scholars, members of the League of Imams and Alfas in the South West as well as representatives of prominent Muslim groups, the statement added, are expected at the one-day conference.
The Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, Professor Dawud Noibi, will host scholars and Muslims from across the South West and beyond at the programme, which will be held under the leadership of MUSWEN president and convener of the conference, Alhaji Sakariyau Babalola.
MUSWEN was established in August 2008 with the aim of uniting the Muslims in the six states that make up the South West and foster the development of the Ummah in the country.
MUSWEN, which prides itself as a unifying factor for the Muslims in the region and beyond, described its 10th year of existence as a decade of unity, peace and progress.
