Residents of Ibarapa North and Ibarapa Central federal constituency in Oyo State have received a boost in public health awareness as a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Muraina Ajibola, facilitated a food safety and hygiene training for local food vendors in the area.

The community-focused training, organised by the Energy Commission of Nigeria, was held in Igbo-Ora, the headquarters of Ibarapa Central Local Government Area.

It brought together scores of food vendors from different communities within the constituency and equipped them with practical knowledge and skills on safe food handling, preparation and hygienic practices.

At the end of the programme, participants were awarded certificates and cash grants to support the growth of their businesses.

Ajibola said the programme was aimed at promoting healthy living and reducing health risks associated with poorly handled food, especially in rural communities.

He stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment and complying with standard hygiene and safety measures, noting that food vendors play a critical role in safeguarding public health.

He said the training was part of his commitment to the welfare of residents and the sustainable development of the constituency.

Ajibola urged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge gained into practice in their daily businesses in order to protect lives, improve service delivery and enhance their sources of livelihood.

Also, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Moshood Abas, and other party leaders praised Ajibola for his consistent empowerment and capacity-building programmes, describing them as key drivers of community development and economic growth in Ibarapa.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Adeagbo Rasheed, Ayanbe Mary and Afolabi Odunayo, described the training as timely and impactful, saying it had exposed them to better ways of running their food businesses and serving the public safely.
