Several months after alleged robbery operations in Lagos and Ogun States, some suspected armed robbers/burglars have been arrested by the operatives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS) of Zone 2 command through the use of some of the mobile phones stolen from their victims.
Through a statement issued by the Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Metro learnt that the operatives were intimated of the suspects’ robbery operations at Arigbajo area of Ogun State where they robbed one of the residents (name withheld).
The victim was said to have reported attack to the police, disclosing that the armed robbers were still using his stolen phone. Police investigations also revealed that the gang members had been terrorising residents of more than 15 communities in Lagos and Ogun, prompting their being placed under surveillance by the Zonal Intervention Squad before their eventual arrest on September 25, 2016.
The zonal PPRO revealed in the statement that the operatives who worked with the police ICT experts arrested one Lekan (surname withheld). Lekan was said to have opened up on other gang members, leading to the arrest of four others in their hideouts in Lagos and Ogun states.
Those nabbed included Mutiu, Akeem, Olahusi Rasaq, Kazeem and Waheed.
“The suspects confessed to have carried out robbery operations at Abata, Ifo, Ewekoro, Mowe, Adigbe area of Abeokuta, Iju, Ota, Alakuko and Agege in Ogun and Lagos states, among others,” the statement further read.
Items recovered from the suspects, according to the zonal PPRO, included refrigerators, laptop, plasma TV sets, generators, wears, electrical appliances and the gang’s operational vehicle, a Mazda bus with registration number Lagos BDG 602 XM.
He added that some of the gang’s victims had identified the suspects and their stolen items recovered by the police.
