The remains of the son of the renowned Human Rights activist, Gani Fawehinmi, Barrister Mohammed Fawehinmi, were finally laid to rest beside his father and grandmother at the family’s country home in Ondo in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The funeral service attracted dignitaries and human rights activists across the country which including former Governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the National Chairman of the National Conscience Party, Tanko Yinusa., friends and members of the civil society groups.
The Officiating Minister, Prophet Robert Steven described the late Mohammed Fawehinmi as a lover of God and human rights activist who fought for the rights of the less privileged.
Robert who described death as a necessary end for every human, said Mohammed stood against injustice and always ready to help the less privileged.
He said, “Mohammed resembled his father, Gani Fawehinmi in everything. He stood against justice and helped the masses.He will be remembered for uncommon love for members of his family and the people”.
Former Governor Mimiko in a speech said the deceased stood against injustice and never allowed his disability to weigh him down.
He described the late Mohammed Fawehinmi as a selfless gentle soul whose deeds will forever live in the hearts of many, and said Mohammed contributed immensely to providing equitable justice praying God to grant him eternal rest.
The Lagos State Chairman, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Kehinde Adeoye, said Muhammed’s death is a great loss to family, legal profession and Nigeria as a whole.
The Junior sister of late Mohammed Fawehinmi, Dr. Idiat Fawehinmi Aliyu said that hmthe late lawyer and activist will be greatly missed by the family.
Until his death, late Mohammed Fawehinmi aged 52 was a lawyer of great repute who participated and managed more than 200 cases at all levels of the judiciary.
Despite the delicate health status of the deceased, he played an active role in civil society circles and also imparted positively to humanity.
