Women Affairs and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has mourned the demise of National President, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Hajiya Lami Lau, who died in the early hours of Wednesday, June 5, 2024, after a brief illness.
Both ministers expressed shock over the sudden death of Lau and prayed that her soul rest in eternal peace.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the NCWS Headquarters in Abuja, Barrister (Mrs.) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye described her as a mother and sister whose commitment to the upliftment of the lives of Nigerian women was unwavering.
Kennedy-Ohanenye said, “Hajiya Lami Lau was a humble and compassionate mother and sister whose earnest pursuit as the leader of the Council is to ensure the upliftment of the lives of the gender to enable them to attain their optimum height in life.”
She urged women to emulate her exemplary lifestyle by working together to ensure that women in the country occupy their quota for the socio-economic development of the nation.
While condoling with Nigerian women, especially her immediate family, over the loss, the minister urged them to take solace in God in this period of grief because death is inevitable and will come when it comes.
In the same vein, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, condoled the family and friends of Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau.
The minister, in her heartfelt condolences to the leadership of the National Council of Women Societies, described the death as a huge loss to the women’s fold.
Mahmoud said the late women’s leader was committed to the peace, unity, and progress of Nigerian women, adding that she built her ideas of nationhood on true, sustaining democratic principles.
Her condolence message reads in part: “The death of the president of the National Council of Women Societies, Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau, in submission to the will of Almighty Allah, is indeed shocking.
“The demise of the National President at this critical time of our development is a huge loss to the women’s fold and one too deep for our First Lady.
“The late women’s leader was one who was committed to the peace, unity, and progress of our women.
“She was a dedicated leader and champion of women’s empowerment and will be deeply missed by all who knew her,” affirming that her tireless efforts and contributions to the betterment of society would never be forgotten.”
