The Nigerian Customs officers at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Makia have arrested a Saudi Arabia returnee with a bag filled with foreign currency equivalent to N1billion.
A source who preferred anonymity disclosed that the man, whose name is undisclosed arrived on a 2pm Ethiopian Airline flight on Thursday afternoon.
According to the source, during the checking of his luggage, different foreign currencies such as US Dollars, Euro, Pound Sterling and Saudi Riyal were discovered worth about N1billion.
However, the suspect as well as the money discovered have been taken away to the customs headquarters in Kano for further investigation.
The source further disclosed that the returnee allegedly connived with some airport staff to divert his luggage through a backdoor but the customs insisted on checking the bags.
As of the time of filing this report, the Head, Corporate Communications at Makia, Maimuna Tadafe is yet to respond to the allegation put to her via a text message.
