A 35-year-old man, Sunday Igwe was on Tuesday arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over alleged dealing in 2.3 Kilogrammes of Indian Hemp.
The prosecutor of the National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency,(NDLEA) Mrs Beatrice Igbaraese told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 21 at Oye-Ekiti, in Oye Local Government Area.
The charge sheet reads, “That you, Sunday Igwe 34 on January 21 at no 146 Irare Street, Oye-Ekiti, in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti without lawful authority dealt in 2.3 Kg of cannabis Sativa, similar to cocaine, heroin and LSD.”

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed contravened Section 11c of NDLEA Act Cap 30 Law of the Federal of Nigeria, 2004.
Igbaraese, who did not oppose the bail application by the defence counsel, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable her to prepare properly for the case.
Earlier, the defendant had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge levelled against him when it was read to him by the court.
His counsel, Mr Olatunde Olayemi prayed the court for bail with a 10 paragraphs affidavit in favour of his client.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Babs Kuewumi granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N5,000,000 and one surety in like sum.
He, however, added a caveat that the surety should be a level 14 civil servant, who must be within the jurisdiction of the court.
Justice Kuewumi then adjourned the case to March 24 for trial.
