The Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan-Waya, has said none of its students was killed in the recent upheavals in Southern Kaduna as it was reported by some media organisations.
In a statement signed by the acting registrar of thecollege, Mr Samuel Tukurah, the college does not run any Department of Mass Communication as reported and every student of the Gidan-Waya campus is presently on break.
The statement however called on members of the public to disregard such stories as they are mere attempt to compound the security challenges being experienced in Southern Kaduna in particular and the state in general.
The statement reads: “Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan-Waya, is in receipt of a report on unfounded news going round the media, especially the social media, that five students of the college were ambushed and killed by Fulani herdsmen on their way to the college along Kagoro-Gidan-Waya road on Sunday, 22 January, 2017.
“The college wishes to categorically state that the story is totally false and unfounded. Similarly, the college is not aware or in receipt of any report of such incident from the police. Moreover, the college does not run any Department of Mass Communication and all its students of the Gidan-Waya campus are presently on break.”
It added: “We are surprised that such insinuation is being patronised and perpetrated by certain reputable media outfits.
Members of the general public are, therefore, called upon to totally disregard such stories as they are mere attempt to compound the security challenges being experienced in Southern Kaduna and the state in general.”
It would be recalled that one of the media organisations reported that five students were killed by suspected herdsmen while they were on their way back to the college for academic activities.
However, the college authority said the report was totally false as students were on break.
